I cannot make you happy, but I can commit to support you in the creation of your own happiness. - Yung Pueblo
Almost three months after the fact: No Big Deal.
Let me start by stating, House Music/Electronic Dance Music STARTED IN DETROIT - like so many other great things. Now that that fact has been established on the record. I'll be honest and say the Movement Fest has never been on my list of things to do. I'm down for a good fist bump to some EDM every now and again, but it's nothing I seek out.
For one of my best friends 40th birthday, she said she wanted to do Movement Fest. VIP 'cause we are old, and I've made a quasi-promise to myself to celebrate my bestie's 40th birthdays with them in person. Plus, it's been a minute since I've spent Memorial Day Weekend back home and decided, SILLY NOT TOO.
We started the day at Citizen Yoga - Bloomfield, and honey - we PACKED that class out. I'd bet MONEY they have never had THAT many Black people in one class before. I was proud that most of the group are already regular practioners and integregated seamlessly with the rest of the class. #BlackPeopleDoYogaToo

The class was a beautiful YinYasa [Yin+Vinyasa] flow, and a perfect way to start the day before heading to Brunch, and then on to the Movement Fest in Hart Plaza. This is the second time I've had the chance to practice while home, and it's different from the Powerful Flow I typically practice. But I love that, going to different places and trying new studios, flows, and teachers. #AumYogaWithSLJordanAroundTheWorld

Movement Fest was SO much fun, and it's definitely about to be a thing for my bestie, her husband, and I. We went specifically to see Three 6 Mafia and Detroit Native Kash Doll. I didn't think we were going to make it the whole day, but we did.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time home. Springtime in the D is super cute! Beautiful weather. People everywhere. Curated events. The city of Detroit is changing, but it's still the same at the same time and that's what I love the most.
Meet Me on the Ma'at.
